Natural Bristles- Obtained from hair of Hog or Wild boar. The bristles are tubular in form and are more susceptible to fraying, breaking, contamination with microbial debris. softening and loss of elasticity.
Synthetic Bristles- Nylon bristles which are uniform in size and elasticity, resistant to fracture and does not get contaminated. Though both of these can remove plaque, nylon filaments are superior in term of homogenicity. uniformity of bristle size, elasticity resistant to fracture and repulsion of water and debris.
The first toothbrush, as we know it today, was invented in 1857 by an American named H.N. Wadsworth followed by a patented three-row toothbrush of serrated bristles with larger tufts created by Dr. Meyer Rhein.
